Sulphur Mountain Historic Site Orange Sunset

An orange sunset at the Sulphur Mountain Historic Site creates one of the most dramatic evening scenes on the Banff Gondola summit. From the Sanson’s Peak area, the elevated viewpoint opens across an immense Rocky Mountain landscape while the setting sun fills the western and southwestern sky with warm colour.

As sunset approaches, the sky can transition through gold, amber, orange and deep red, particularly when scattered clouds catch the final sunlight. After the sun disappears, the experience continues. Bright orange near the horizon gradually fades into softer pink, purple and deep blue as twilight settles over Banff National Park. Mountains that were clearly defined moments earlier become dark silhouettes stretching across the skyline.
